Horseracing in Ireland

Ireland’s South East is well known for its equestrian industry with world-renowned stud farms such as Coolmore Stud and trainers such as Aidan O’Brien creating a name on the global stage for Irish and Tipperary horses and horse racing. There are some fantastic racecourses on offer in the greater Tipperary area at which you can enjoy the thrills and adrenaline rushes that are Irish Horse Racing. Thurles Racecourse is an oval right-handed track of one and a quarter miles, it is located approximately 15 minutes drive from Lisheen Castle. There are 6 flights of hurdles and 7 steeplechase fences in each circuit. Principally this is a steeplechase jumping track, though a small number of flat races are held. Racing takes place in the winter months generally from late October to the end of March.[

If somebody asked you to put a racecourse anywhere in Ireland the chances are you would set it down in Gowran Park. Located in the centre of wooded parkland, Gowran Park is the only grade 1 racecourse in the South East. 16 top-quality national hunt and flat meetings are held here each year, all year round. Gowran Park provides modern facilities in the heart of the racing country and offers a great location from which to enjoy the excitement and spectacle of a day at the races.

Clonmel Racecourse (Powerstown Park) has been a popular venue for horse racing for more than 150 years. 
The racecourse is a right-handed track of one and a quarter miles. It is recognized as a demanding National Hunt course with a stiff uphill climb followed by a gradual downhill run with an uphill finish. Viewing of racing from all points in the enclosure is exceptional. An abundance of mature trees and shrubs enhance the aesthetic quality of the 160-acre racecourse environment. Renowned trainers like Aiden O’Brien attend many of our races. The town of Clonmel is a very historic and interesting town, which lies at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains and is situated in the valley of the broad and beautiful river Suir. Views of the Comeragh Mountains can be clearly seen from the racecourse.
